Job Description:
The Senior Accountant at Three Wood Investments plays a critical role in supporting the financial operations, reporting, and accounting oversight of the company's real estate development activities and related operating entities. This hands-on position is responsible for full-cycle accounting, payroll administration, development cost tracking, financial reporting, budgeting support, and maintaining the accuracy and integrity of financial information across multiple legal entities.
The Senior Accountant is a senior technical contributor who ensures accurate accounting treatment for land development, construction, and capital projects while supporting month-end close, compliance, financial analysis, and continuous improvement initiatives. This role is well suited for an experienced accounting professional who thrives in a dynamic, growing environment and enjoys balancing strategic financial responsibilities with day-to-day accounting operations.
Key Responsibilities:

Perform full-cycle accounting across multiple development and operating entities, including general ledger, accounts payable/receivable, bank reconciliations, journal entries, month-end close, balance sheet reconciliations, financial statements (ASPE), consolidated reporting, cash management, intercompany reconciliations, and fixed assets.

Manage accounting for land development, construction, and capital projects by tracking project costs, maintaining development budgets and proformas, monitoring cost variances, supporting project financing (construction loans, lender draws, interest capitalization), and capital expenditure reporting.

Process weekly payroll through QuickBooks, prepare payroll journal entries and reconciliations, administer statutory remittances (source deductions, WSIB, EHT), and support year-end payroll activities, including T4 preparation and employee payroll changes.

Support annual budgets, forecasts, cash flow planning, variance analyses, financial reporting, operational decision-making, business planning, and ad hoc financial analysis for leadership.

Ensure compliance with accounting standards, internal controls, and regulatory requirements by preparing HST, payroll, WSIB, EHT, and other statutory filings, supporting year-end audits, and coordinating with external accountants, auditors, lenders, and tax advisors.

Utilize QuickBooks and other financial systems to maintain accurate reporting, improve accounting processes and internal controls, support system implementations and upgrades, and develop standardized accounting procedures and best practices.

Partner with the Senior Finance Manager, development teams, operations, and external consultants to provide timely financial information, reporting, account support, and cross-functional collaboration.

Contribute to a culture of accountability, professionalism, collaboration, and continuous improvement while performing additional accounting and finance responsibilities as required.
Required Knowledge & Experience:

Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline.

CPA designation completed or actively pursuing is preferred. Equivalent combinations of education and progressive accounting experience will also be considered.

Minimum 5 years of progressive accounting experience in a full-cycle accounting environment.

Strong understanding of financial reporting and ASPE.

Experience working in a multi-entity or privately held business environment is preferred.

Experience in real estate development, construction, or project accounting is considered a strong asset.

Experience processing payroll using QuickBooks or a comparable payroll system.

Strong knowledge of HST, payroll remittances, WSIB, EHT, and other statutory reporting requirements.

Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including reconciliations, financial analysis, and reporting.

Experience supporting external audits and working with professional advisors.
