At Sierra Construction, we embrace our role in the community as both a company and a resident, and make it our mission to help construct a bright future for Oxford County Residents! As builders, we understand the profound impact our work can have on communities. However, our commitment to creating lasting change doesn't stop at constructing buildings, bridges, and roads; it extends to actively engaging with and giving back to the communities we serve.
Over the past 30 years, Sierra Construction has been a major sponsor of a variety of initiatives in support of Oxford County, from supporting the new Woodstock General Hospital to aiding the construction of Domestic Abuse Services Oxford and VON Sakura House Palliative Care Hospice, participating in Men in Heels and the MS Super Cities Walk, and supporting numerous organizations that provide activities for the younger members of the community.
Investing in the next generation is a key focus point for our community outreach initiatives each year. In addition to supporting numerous fundraising events at local schools and organizations catering to the younger demographic, we prioritize youth sports sponsorship, championing teams in minor hockey, baseball, and soccer. Youth sports occupy a special place in our values, as they foster physical health, teamwork, and perseverance while serving as a vat for personal development. These programs not only cultivate essential life skills and bolster confidence but also forge enduring friendships, combat issues like childhood obesity, and promote holistic wellness. Through our support, we're not merely fostering athletes; we're nurturing well-rounded individuals equipped to navigate life's challenges with resilience, both on and off the field. In the past year alone, Sierra Construction has contributed to several youth sports organizations across Oxford County, with many of these sponsorships directly benefiting our employees' children who participate in these teams.
We are fortunate enough to be able to rely on those incredible employees to also help us in these community initiatives, specifically during the holiday season. Working with the Children’s Aid Society of Oxford County, our company works diligently to spread the holiday spirit each year with our 11 Families at Christmas campaign, sponsoring 11 families in our community and donating the toys, clothing, and miscellaneous items included on their Christmas wish lists. Hosting this charity drive each year with our team serves as a powerful testament to our company's commitment to community and compassion. Beyond fostering a sense of camaraderie among our team, these initiatives provide a meaningful opportunity to give back to those in need, particularly during a time of year when the spirit of generosity is paramount. By rallying together to collect gifts for families who may otherwise go without, our team not only contributes to brightening the holiday season for families in their community but also embodies the values of empathy within our workplace culture.
But it’s not just during the holidays that our team shines. At Sierra Construction, we like to put the fun in fundraising and participate in entertaining initiatives such as United Way Oxford’s UDODGE Dodgeball Tournament. This year, we entered three teams into the competition, each looking to bring home the first-place wrench and raise as much as they could for the community. With the help of fellow employees, families, sub-trades, and more, we’ve raised nearly $10,000 over the last two years to help United Way work with local organizations to provide mental health support, child support, and support for families in need in Oxford County! Participating in UDODGE each year offers a unique blend of team-building, camaraderie, and philanthropy to our team. Beyond the fun and excitement of the game itself, it provides employees with an opportunity to bond outside of the traditional work setting while supporting their community.
Sierra’s contributions have benefited many in Oxford County and beyond. Other notable contributions include the Oxford Community Foundation and their annual Warden's Golf Tournament, Georgian College Nursing Program, Friends of the Orphans, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Oxford County, Community Living Brant, Lansdowne Children’s Centre, and multiple Habitat for Humanity building projects.
By investing in our communities today, we are laying the groundwork for a brighter and more sustainable future tomorrow. Whether it's fostering economic growth, enhancing the quality of life, or promoting social cohesion, the ripple effect of giving back is undeniable, and Sierra Construction is proud to be a part of that effect in Oxford County.
