Job Description:

The Estimator Co-op is a temporary, academic placement role that provides students with practical exposure to construction estimating and preconstruction processes. This position supports the Preconstruction team with quantity take-offs, bid preparation, subcontractor outreach, and document management, while learning how estimates are developed for commercial, industrial, and institutional projects. The Estimator Co-op will gain valuable experience in construction cost estimating and will be prepared to transition into a Junior Estimator role after graduation or with additional experience.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist with quantity take-offs for labour, materials, and equipment under senior team guidance.

  • Support review and organization of tender documents, drawings, and specifications.

  • Request, track, and follow up on subcontractor and supplier quotes.

  • Compare proposals for scope alignment, completeness, and accuracy.

  • Participate in bid closings and support preparation of budget estimates and cost plans.

  • Use and develop proficiency in estimating tools and software (e.g., Excel, Planswift, Building Connected, OST, Bluebeam, Procore).

  • Track addenda, RFIs, and tender clarifications while collaborating with estimators and project managers on scope and risks.

  • Develop technical and professional skills through mentorship while adhering to company policies and completing additional assigned duties.

Required Knowledge & Experience:

  • Enrolled in a diploma or degree program in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Architectural Technology, or a related field.

  • Strong interest in construction estimating, cost control, and preconstruction planning.

  • Basic ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications.
    Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook).

  • Exposure to estimating or take-off software (e.g., OST, Bluebeam) considered an asset.

  • Strong numerical, analytical, and problem-solving skills.

  • Excellent attention to detail, organization, and communication.

  • Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced team environment
